Sfakiano Gorge
This is a very interesting gorge and is the first gorge west of the Imbros Gorge. There are a few different ways to reach the entrance of the Sfakian gorge. One way is to walk up from the village Imbros and the other is from Ammoudari towards the Niato plateau in the White Mountains following partly the E4 and walk to the entrance. From Niato the walk towards, and also in the gorge, is marked by the Mountaineering Club of Chania. At the beginning the gorge is steep until you reach the old chapel of Agios Pavlos. This Byzantine church of Saint Paul (Agios Pavlos) was built by the locals in 1407.
The walk through the riverbed is quite easy and from Agios Pavlos it is about 6,5 km. The options described above are long walks and take about 6 hours, including about one hour from the exit towards Chora Sfakion. The distance of these walks is ca 18 km.
