Discover... on Foot
Welcome to the website of Discover…On Foot! We publish local walking guidebooks for the island Crete in Greece. With our colourful guidebooks you can discover the wonderful unknown areas of Crete on foot! Starting from 2009 we have published 9 walking guidebooks for the following areas: Vamos, Georgioupolis, Almyrida & Kalyves, the Venetian cities of Chania and Rethymnon, Agia Galini, Mirtos, Plakias & Spili and Paleochora & Sougia. Besides these books we also published a map for the Apokoronas region, another guidebook with longer walks in Apokoronas and a booklet about traditional kafenions in this region.
Our books on Crete
The aim of our walking guidebooks is to discover a relatively small area of Crete on foot, find out the local paths, small churches, ancient sights, traditional villages and much more. The books also contain historical information, presentation of sights and useful tips & activities. Each walk description includes a detailed map and many colourful pictures. Our books are printed on high quality paper and the firm cover has a coating to protect the book against rain or dirt. We create all the walks ourselves; we make all the pictures and maps as well, besides the layout of the books. We have got many ideas for other locations, in and outside of Crete!
All our books
The books and map are locally available in shops, tourist offices and hotels or can be ordered through our Webshop. We hope you enjoy discovering some hidden treasures usually missed by the majority of visitors and get a real flavour of the areas described in our books!
Walking on Crete
Since our walking guidebooks describe destinations on Crete, we include in the website some pages with extra information about the walking possibilities on this beautiful island (Walking on Crete). Crete is like a country on its own and has so much to offer for walkers! In this section you will find information about the gorges and the mountain areas of Crete. There is also information about the famous long distance hike along the E4.
